I am giving it 2 stars because I do love art and I love to see some of the great work some artists do. I don't understand why the show has not gotten rid of the judges. The guy is a great artist but has zero personality in the sense that he allows the two women to sway his opinions.
Not sure which season I am watching right now, but these people chose a student, young man, tall, who does not know what he is doing, nothing he does represents the landscapes, no one who would see that in an art fair, or a museum (God forbid his current work making it into a museum because his work up to now is really garbage, not one represents the landscapes they were asked to paint) the young blonde who seems to be good at hanging contemporary art on the walls of a gallery and seems mesmerized by incomplete art showing drops from the lack of care from the artists seems to be a major influence on the other two. They are the same three judges at the "Portrait Artist of the Year" and over there they also make very poor decisions. At the end of one of the episodes one of the presenters asked them "Wait a minute, isn't a portrait supposed to have a likeness to the sitter", they could not answer but came up with some idiocy like "Art is subjective", and NO, when you want to do a portrait one expects to be able to recognize the sitter.
My wife and I went to an art fair last week-end, there was a landscape artists there, when my wife looked at one of the landscapes she knew exactly what it was, when we read the label by the painting, it showed that my wife was correct, it was obvious what the landscape represented.
Shame on the producers for accepting these three judges and not getting rid of them. They are unqualified. An art contest must be judged on technique, likeness of the subject, one must be able to recognize the subject 2 years from the day the painting was completed.
Please producers, get rid of the judges, you are going to loose audience because of them,
