I find it a refreshing take on the Enterprise and its journeys during the early years - or at least, before Kirk was in command of it. The writing and acting are (in my opinion) superb; Anson Mount as Pike is just fantastic. Knowing his “expiration date”, so to speak, adds yet another dimension to the character and how Mount portrays him. It’s quickly become on of my favorite Star Trek series.
