This movie is excellent. Which is refreshing because so many prequels and sequels fall short.
Pearl blew X out of the water completely. i found X to be super slow for what MOSTLY otherwise felt like a typical slasher ( despite that deviation from the monster-like-male killer archetype )
Pearl had a LOT of emotionally painful moments which sucked to watch but were highly effective for the tone of the film. I was sick to my stomach most of the movie. (trigger warning she abuses her paralyzed father, and harms animals)
But the depth of her character is next level. the psychopathy portrayed in pearl is something I’ve personally never seen in a female character. It was TERRIFYING. Mia Goth’s performance was PERFECT. all the way to the end credits she was DELIVERING.
We have this “ innocent “ looking , young girl who is cut off from society, lives in an imaginary world in her head, who begins pushing social boundaries and eventually murdering people without remorse. it is mentioned by her mother that she’s actually always had these tendencies WHICH if you are a mother or do want kids some day is a sobering thought.
OH ALSO!!!! so creative. The way they use the old American fonts , transitions and music to put us straight into pearls imagination.
DELICIOUS.
