The Holdovers is a great movie recalling a bygone era (the early '70s) and set in a beautiful New England town during winter and Christmas 1970. As a handful of prep school students get "heldover" during Christmas Break, a beleaguered long-time professor is left in charge along with the school's head cook Mary. What follows is a touching story of some tough lessons learned not only in school but in life. Paul Giamatti delivers a top shelf performance as the professor and Da'Vine Joy Randolph is A+ as Mary. A real gem of a movie. Truly thoughtful and enjoyable.
