Absolutely amazing show that people are misunderstanding and are not giving the it the flowers it is due. Amateur writing as Iโve never written a review or articulated anything like this before so bear with me
SPOILERS AHEAD
So I wonโt go into every little detail because itโs amazing seeing it all yourself but Iโll give a few examples. The ending that everyone (not actually everyone duh) seems to think is a flop or a let down, isnโt actually the ending. They play heavily into our perspective and manipulate our intelligence in the most complex, simple way Iโve ever seen. The name โPresumed Innocenceโ is exactly what they force us to see, that everyone is to be presumed innocent. Jaden, the daughter that โdid it,โ did it in the same way Rusty, and almost every single major character also โdid it.โ We are shown roughly the same amount of evidence for everyone, each character had a motive to kill her, an reason why they were there that night, intense cleanliness, two completely different personalities they arenโt aware of, each in all those characters. In his closing argument, Tommy used Rustyโs line he said at the beginning of the show when rusty is talking to his team about Carolynes trial. Notice how many people cleaned a lot? Raymond and his wife Lorraine seem to be our voice, they question the reality as they sees it. They call rusty out on his toxic personality the entire time behind the scenes as we are shown. And as soon as Rusty had his electrically induced heart issue, rusty took over in the trial and in the show and made us fully trust him as he did the jury to win the case. Raymond came back last minute but rusty made sure to limit his role. Every character has an angry side we either see or hear through passing conversations. But what we see overrules that. The doctor is exactly as he says, he says the truth. He is just as guilty as them because he withheld evidence, like Tommy and rusty, he argued with them aggressively, as we saw them do with him right back. Every single character could have done this and they show everything and nothing at the same time. The show is so much more complex, please revisit it and watch it like everyone is guilty or as innocent. Youโll get the same experience because we really donโt know, we were forced to see so much that itโs hard to tell. Every character is playing the same role but as their own unique character. The kids donโt start seems to start out that way as they turn down napkins early on but display signs of aggression and line repetition. Every detail, line, frame, itโs all intentional, even the shows they watch. Could it just all be what he wants us to be stuck on and it really is his daughter? Or is there more to it than we seem to believe? Carolyne may have been onto something before she met her demise. Absolutely brilliant, please revisit this genuine work of art.
