I think being an older adult like the two main characters was almost essential to fully appreciating this film. Redford's character in particular needed to grasp another experience/challenge with renewed purpose, though later in life. The physical struggles of both aging men, played with authentic humor, resonates with anyone over 65 who is no longer in their prime, and less than physically graceful. Ultimately, they exhibit inner grace and wisdom to say we've done enough. I laughed out loud multiple times throughout the movie. At 74, I could especially appreciate and love this movie.
