SPOILERS I just don’t understand. I don’t understand why the general population raves movies like this. Scariest you’ve ever seen? Messed you up? What are we even talking about here? This movie was hard to watch all the way through but only because it’s so boring. The other 1 star reviews are bang on. This move is not a horror by any means at all. A gory scene or two does not equal horror, ffs. It’s depressing and uncomfortable but it’s nothing more than a drama about grief. It also explains NOTHING. Nothing about the thing in the boy, the ritual, where it comes from, nothing. I’m so tired of getting stoked for a truly terrifying movie experience because of the way people talk about these movies only to be utterly let down. Y’all need an education in horror.

It’s as simple as this show had me genuinely chuckling over and over, I loved it. Perfect cast, every character holds their own. Looking forward to season 2!

I get that this is an older movie. I get that it’s a certain subgenre of horror and it is meant to be campy (ha) and ridiculous but it doesn’t do those things in a way that works. This movie is just bad and weird. How old are these kids supposed to be? They’re young enough to be at a summer camp but old enough to be lusting after 60 year old men? They’re young enough to be at camp but old enough to be talking about how big the 12 year old girls boobs are? They’re young enough to be at camp but old enough for the grown ass men to call them “baldies” and drool over them? Like what the fuck is this? Different times and era, bla bla, it’s still really weird and gross and the ending is aimless and random. There are far better older campy horror movies, don’t waste your time on this weird pedo wet dream.

I watched this all the way through thinking there just had to be some kind of twist or turn we aren’t expecting in order to make this movie different from the other 2700 “We Went on Vacay and Met Someone Murdery” movies, but nope. Nothing new. Boring as hell. Predictable at every turn. But as an added kick in the ass, it takes over an hour for anything remotely exciting to happen. James McAvoy’s acting is great as usual but still not worth wasting your time on this turd.

I got too far into this show when I realized it wasn’t a limited series. I had kept watching past the bad dialogue, one dimensional characters and absolutely disgusting treatment of women and gays in this show in the hopes of seeing Kimmie eventually kick some ass. That never came. The very first scene is uncomfortable to watch, and that never lets up. I’m no prude, but the vulgar, abusive and explicit shit in this show is relentless and eventually loses any kind of message the writers are trying to send. Tyler Perry and whoever else wrote this sure do seem to hold a deep hatred for women. They’re all portrayed as objects, with no depth whatsoever, and the abuse toward them is over the top, meaningless and never evolves into any kind of empowerment for a single female character. Gay people are shown as drug addicts or closeted bigots, and of course are the first to be offed. There are zero redeeming qualities about any of the characters except for Kimmie, everyone is vapid and evil. Like every single one. You don’t love to hate anyone, you just hate everyone. Every episode is a boring string of two people threatening one another in a hushed tone. The power this one family is said to have over every single person in the world is laughable. The writing is messy and aimless and I really can’t believe they’re trying to extend this into a multi season show.

Guys. Please. I beg you. I have wasted so many hours of my life watching movies you are describing as some of the scariest horror you’ve ever seen. I trust you. And you lead me astray too much. This movie was slow, boring and painfully predictable. Maybe a jump scare or two and some decent atmosphere but it’s not bone chilling, terrifying or any other word that describes a movie worth watching when you really want to be creeped out.

Just awful. If you like cheap jump scares, zero plot, terrible acting, clumsy attempts at social commentary and awful scripting, this one is for you. This is just an embarrassing instalment in this franchise.
