This is the first Kristin Hannah book I stopped reading. I made it halfway through, and it was painful just to make it that far. It is soooo depressing - of course it is during the Great Depression so it will be, but it was just the same ol', same ol' over and over and over. Very boring and repetitive. Add to that the language used doesn't fit the time period. I kept visualizing the modern day due to how it's written. All this kept me from getting into it. Once I decided to stop reading it and read other reviews, sounds like I made the right decision. Others have stated it continues with the same boring, depressing theme and even starts glorifying communism. Obviously I never made it that far, but I have no regrets for putting it down.
