Spoiler warning, from the books and the series
The "One of us is lying" books are my favorite, it was a good read. I got to get to know the characters, watch how the whole story unfolds, the drama, etc. I found out they made a series about it so I decided to watch it. The series wasn't bad but I personally preferred the books and the series brought up a lot of things that didn't happen in the book, and left out some of the events. In the end it all comes out it was Simon and Jake apart of this case but the events that occur before everything is solved it different. In the book, there was never a homecoming or a Halloween party. Janae wasn't apart of the murder squad as much and she didn't recite Simon's favorite poem in the series. Maeve didn't date Simon and Bronwyn didn't threaten Simon for her sister sending him nudes. Simon made fun of Maeves leukemia in the book. There wasn't mention of Nate selling drugs to janae and janae was never mentioned to have "almost died". Addy got a concussion from Jake and Jake went to jail, but in the series he killed himself and didnt give Addy a concussion, bronwyn dated evan towards the end of the book when Nate got depressed after prison but later broke up with evan. In the book on the day Simon died, Bronwyn got drunk and in the series there was never any alcohol that day. Now these might seem like minor details but there are more than a handful more. It seems like an interesting plot line but if I'm being honest, they could have stuck to the book instead of change a bunch of things in the show. If they wanted something different than what was in the book, they could have just made their own story instead of change the real story of how Karen M. McManus wrote it. I'm not going to add what else happened in the series and in the book because there is too much to be said.
