let me start by saying i was too old for mavis. i'd done my time in typing class (electric AND manual) but i thought this could be interesting. and it was until it wasn't. i was intrigued to learn about the cultural impact and that was a high point in the doc, and they could have really stopped there...but then it got into fan-reality. the masked/muffled interview? the stroll thru the garden? too much time wasted for too little substance. i'd rather see the cliff's notes version...

this had all the ingredients to be a great comedy, but ended up using most of them as props for bill murray's meandering storytelling. and no, i wasn't hoping for a slapstick, guffaw-filled outing, knowing coppolla's style, but with three comedic talents of such magnitude, i barely even managed a chuckle. rashida jones spends most of the movie standing around watching/listening to other people and marlon wayans is little more than background noise in what amounted to a cameo role. and the worst part was...for bill murray being the focus of the film: he just wasn't funny or entertaining. just obnoxious...that guy who everyone avoids at parties... i wish i had avoided this film...

i love it when i see a show that just tells a story. granted, the episodic thing was an unneeded gimmick, but the story and performances were solid. even the "gotcha" moments didn't seem too much as they seemed to make the overall story arc make sense without bending the rules of credulity too far. at the end of the day, it was a good heist film with plenty of backstory and a cast that could pull it off, starting with mr. esposito.
