I'm honestly surprised at so many glowing reviews for this show so far. It's definitely better than the other live action adaptation, but I don't think that I would ever describe it as "great".
The show has moments where I can see potential for interesting character explorations that the original show didn't touch on, but to me it's a lot of unrealized potential mainly hindered by the Netflix treatment. The super HD camera, the bad wigs, constant overuse of background music, terrible choreography, and costumes that look like mid to terrible cosplay undermined what could have been fine performances from the cast.
Most egregiously, Iroh has none of the charm of the original and Suki feels like a predator.
The show has zero pacing and rushes along through mashed up story arcs. Overall it's more of the same HD garbage from Netflix that we saw from adaptations like the Witcher.
