Before beginning my review, I'd like to point out the absolute comedy of the 1 star reviews, given that many of them actually mention Cavill by name, and make vague, meaningless critiques of the film without proving in any way that they actually watched reviews. I'd advise ignoring these keyboard warriors and checking this film out on your own, you won't be disappointed.
Gunn absolutely does what he does best here: delivers a fun and (at times) emotional film that will become an instant superhero media staple. Corenswet's portrayal of both superman and clark is a fresh take on the character, akin to the era of Reeve's superman. This film goes out of its way to truly praise and pay homage to the source material from the very first minute of action. it's unapologetically bright, colorful, and truly has an air of hope and true goodness that a lot of superhero media (and media in general) is sorely lacking. Hoult absolutely kills it as Luthor, and the chemistry between Brosnahan (Lois) and Corenswet is evident in every scene they share together. While Superman does fight a handful of unique villains throughout the course of the film, I'd argue that his real strength and mental fortitude is found in his wholesome, caring attitude that spans from his family and closest friends, all the way to the stray animals he encounters on the battlefield. While a bit hard to follow at times, this film really goes out of it's way to be a fresh portrayal of Superman, for hope and genuine kindness in a world that seems to be lacking in both. Ultimately though, don't take my word for it! My honest recommendation would be to ignore the takes, both good and bad, and see it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
