I am not a theater kid but an occasional patron of the arts (someone who represents a large population of Wickeds attendance). This was a brilliant and moving story -- a FILM in the musical genre BASED ON a Broadway play.
I have never been so stunned, held my breath longer, or, better yet, had my breath stolen from a story. Similar but still more impactful, when Olivia asked Rhaenyra to come with her, Elphaba's request left me motionless. From that point until the credits rolled, tears slowly fell down my face, my soul rocked. Galinda rejected her, and my heart broke. She needed to face the world against her (full of discrimination and hate) alone, unfairly.
This film was beautifully done and gut-wrenching. Just listening to the soundtrack on Spotify elicits goosebumps and brings on tears.
