Grand sets and costumes and bhansali signature cinematography.
In parts, reminiscent of the following movies:-
i. bajirao-mastani where new bride of foreign culture dances the ruler- husband's traditional dance (pinga there, ghoomar here)
ii. Mirch Masala 1980s film starting Smita Patil : angry women hurling objects at intruder (glowing coals here, chilli powder there)
iii. Bahubali: battle scenes, huge catapults
And yes great casting for Alauddin khilji. Singh has done full justice to the role. That group dance of khilji&men radiates raw energy! Unecessary and awkward song sequence when khiljis slave starts a song.Scene where padmavati answers questions posed by raghav chetan, her eyes tear up unnecessarily.
Ratan Singhs "moral values" in the film border on the foolhardy when he insists on meeting khilji in his fort before escaping and telling him that he is leaving with Padmavati.
