This anime was not written by Rumiko Takahashi, and it shows. It has some of the essential components of the original Inuyasha universe, including the old cast. However, it entirely lacks any pathos the original series had.
Yashahime plays out far more like a choppy fanfiction. There is little to no plot build up, and the storytelling is unclear. Character development is completely lacking, and the scenes that are intended to be emotionally charged fall flat because of it. As someone who adored the original fantasy/adventure series Inuyasha, I desperately wanted to fall in love with this next generation of characters and their own unique stories. But there really isn't anything unique about lackadaisical plots and mary sue main characters.
