After reading thousands of positive reviews in the internet about how great True Detective is and an absolute must-watch, I decided to give it a shot, since I watched almost all crime dramas, TV series, documentaries, thrillers, horrors, mysteries, cult movies, etc., and I cannot believe how disappointing True Detective was. This is not a detective story and not a crime drama by all means but a biography of 2 screwed-up, revolting alcoholics. I couldn't develop even slightest sence of empathy for the characters and was hoping they'll both end up dead at the end. The atmosphere and the southern ambiance of this show are rich and the cinematography is great, but the story is terrible - derivative, incredibly predictable and boring, it moves at frustrating low pace. No edge, no mystery, no thrill, no suspence. The caracters are too dark and painful to watch, with the same facial expressions throughout the entire season, dialogs are pretentious, dragged and smeared across everything - psychology, philosophy, relationship, religion, life. Main character is a pseudo-intellectual nihilist and severely depressed addict - a "detective" who is shown sucking a cigarette the entire time. I had to force myself through first 4 episodes and then convinced myself to watch until the end for the sake of experience, but IÂ continued to be disappointed by episode after episode.
