It’s not the most enthralling read to be honest, I found myself wanting to enjoy it more than I did. I also found myself taking notes so I could try to work out who the author/rider might be and this resulted in me losing track of the story line and having to reread sections if it. There isn’t really much gossip, the author points to a rather bland peloton where fair competition and respect amongst riders reigns, doping is a thing if the past (or certainly not team sponsored) and riders are professional in all aspects and are there simply to compete. I was hoping having anonymity meant the author actually had something juicy to reveal but there wasn’t a lot other than pointing a finger towards sponsors who are generally a pain in the arse. Which any reader with an avid interest in cycling probably already knows.
That said it wasn’t the worst cycling book I’ve read, and I have read most of them. It’s worth the cost of the book for a holiday read.
