I loved this movie so much that in 1990 I traveled to Scotland from Canada and rode my bicycle around (with tent and sleeping bag) to visit the different locations. In Pennan I drank at he pub with the locals - 'curtain is closed tap is open'. They let me pitch my tent a backyard and I spent a few days there. The road out of town is one of the steepest climbs I ever seen. The movie is perfection - I was studied film and photography at Ryerson in Toronto and this was the first film I saw as a student.
