I’m not a spy. But if I was, I’m betting that life would be similar to the way it’s portrayed in The Agency.
This is a great show. It’s realistic. There are no exploding pens from Q branch, or sexy Bond girls hanging out with Maud Adams, although the cast is perfectly attractive. Instead, this is thoughtful, mature, and gritty.
The Agency brings the spy game into 2024. References and storyline have strong parallels with what’s happening in our world today. What I’m left with is that decisions, no matter how small, have consequences - personally and geopolitically.
It is unnerving to watch. It gets very personal. It can feel like there’s ‘dead’ time, but there isn’t. The spy game - the way they tell it - involves a lot of waiting. Waiting and stressing about what’s going to happen next.
I love the spy genre but I have always wanted a film / show that dove deeper. This show delivers. The writers, directors and actors have all done an incredible job.
