Unfortunately the Stephen King quote on the front cover did not live up to expectations, the author makes many references to other well known horror stories/films throughout sections of the book and this “story” could not even compare to those- not even one bit, I found the blog sections very annoying to read, at a point where I almost wanted to skip them entirely and if I’m being honest- other than some small parts towards the end of the book- you probably could.
The atmosphere setting is almost non existent so you find yourself trying to imagine a way the story could be better the entire way reading through it.
There is a “scene” where a replication of the notorious part of the Exorcist takes place/ albeit with out the foul language and crucifix- and that’s exactly how it felt reading it.
If you were to remove that part from the book, along with the blog sections- you would have a semi decent scary story aimed at an age group of around 13- 16 year olds.
Reading Merry’s sections of the book from when she was a child was quite endearing, and from an adults perspective -she would make for a good character in a child’s adventure books.
So to some it up for me, not a scary horror story, a annoying story to read in quite a few sections, a lack lustre of atmosphere and quite literally waiting and waiting for something super scary to happen the entire way through the book until we get to the last couple of pages where I quote myself “meh the last couple of pages weren’t so bad compared to the rest”
