Just saw The Brutalist last night .
Quite a colossal achievement across the board in filmmaking. This 3.5 hours of cinema keeps you desperately immersed through the entire movie. There are several amazing actor performances, though I felt a few were contrived, sometimes theatrical. Adrian Brody is sensational. Felicity Jones , also delivered an outstanding performance. The film tells a story of a man’s brave journey to America seeking opportunity and freedom from war.
It seemed to mix beautifully several different directorial influences. Cinematically it is hauntingly beautiful, (Spielberg) exquisitely telling the story
( Cronenberg) in a dark and abstract way (Lynch) delivering some very raw and sexually explicit scenes.
Overall I would recommend this film to true film lovers , though not to those looking to enjoy a night out at the movies.
I thought the 12 minute intermission was pretty cool and definitely necessary to get up and stretch.
