A very good film. Probably not realistic. But good acting and good characters are shown. Some explanations say it's about a rich widow. But in actual fact she becomes homeless once her long term partner dies .She needs to get to the seaside to scatter his ashes. She had to bribe the undertaker to get his ashes which had been buried in a family plot. A singer notices her at the funeral and wants to start a relationship with her .He offers to drive her to the sea and she agrees and pays half the fuel costs. In fact he has never been to the sea and just told her he knows the way just to go out with her.On the journey many mishaps occur including being robbed by a young girl pretending to be on a pilgrimage. The widow does not actually like the driver because she feels he is uncouth and low class. And too sexually forward .He is a widower with one son who reports him as a missing person .She gives her ring away in exchange for a boatman to scatter the ashes at sea .Meanwhile the driver has totally fallen for her .However her actual motive in going to the seaside was to commit suicide. She runs away but leaves a note. Explaining she won't commit suicide because he has helped her realize she does in fact have something to live for .But she does not wish for a new relationship. However after a while they meet and she agrees to start over with Witek The widowed driver !
