Even though this movie is a bit depressing, I love how they ended it.
The kid's positive point of view gives a sense of hope that there could always be another option to survive.
If there was a part 2 to this movie, I really hope the survivors would turnout to have some supernatural abilities as a result of exposing and surviving that 'gas'.
