The original animated How To Train Your Dragon series still holds a special place in my heart to this day. I’d watch it religiously as a kid, and I couldn’t wait to see the live action with my best friend in the theater. This live action is actually very good! I was most impressed with the visuals and costumes. The graphics and visuals are stunning, and they stuck very near and true to the original script. There were some subtle changes in dialogue and smaller moments, but the movie was still really good and enjoyable to watch. For example, when Hiccup and Toothless had Astrid kidnapped in the tree in the original, they instead had her kidnapped on a rock above the ocean. I still really enjoyed this live action! I appreciate that it stayed true to the original story throughout the whole movie. Toothless and the other dragon’s designs looked incredible! They were so stunning and impressive to see in the film. Toothless is the most accurate to the original film’s design as well. The other dragons look different and more realistic compared to their animated designs which I was disappointed by at first, but their newer live action designs grew on me a lot and fit in with the more realistic approach of a live action adaptation. They even had the original voice actor for Stoick casted as Stoick in this movie. Normally I’m not a fan of animated movies being turned into live actions, but this live action was such a joy to watch and I encourage others to give it a try as well!
