I have a lot to say positively about this drama, please note that this is my personal opinion and review right after actually finishing watching the kdrama.
First off, most viewers say this drama is a comedy and had made them laugh most of the time. But actually, in my opinion, this drama has a lot more meaningful scenes rather than the comedic ones. I lost count on how many times I've been caught off guard by every story either from the case or the characters backstories. The comedy aspects of this drama is good, but their meaningful and serious aspects actually far exceed my expectations, which sometimes made me wonder why do people always mentioned the comedic aspects but rarely mentioned the sincere side of this drama. The plot in this drama is actually amazing and every arc in this drama bring a weightful meaning messages about life to the table.
Second, I love the symbolism of this drama. At a glance I also thought it was ridiculous and funny. it was easy to overlook it as part of the mere comedic aspects of the show. The first thing I especially noticed is their change of office. We were told in the beginning of the story that they have to move to a kindergarten building momentarily as their official-actual office was undergoing a repair. Who wouldn't find police officers having to move to a kindergarten building amusingly hilarious? But by the time you learn of every character's struggles, you'll realize the kindergarten building is there to symbolizes our officers inner struggle. If that is what the writer initially planned, then the writer knows what they are doing. But if perhaps Im reading too much into it, then lets just say in my opinion it was an excellent unconscious narrative choice.
The characters are complex and they do have their own motivation, with differing characteristics and their respective unique charms. Their captain said "our team isn't exactly invincible, but it's quite charming" every one of them started off messy and lost, but they managed to follow and developed for the better to become who they are at the end of the drama. Take example of, the character Moo Joong-ryuk. He is introduced as a character who Relies on his so-called-Hunch too much and exaggeratedly depends on bragging his lifetime field experience when in truth he needs to work on it more. Only when their new captain Dongbang Yu-bin took the lead for their team did he finally realize there is much more than relying on hunches (as he would always be factually proven wrong by his captain) and that he needs to learn and work on his data and theories further before drawing his own assumptions/conclusions regarding many aspects. Gradually, we will see him learning to do deductions just like what his captain always does, and it pays off in the end. The same goes for Jang Tan-sik, Seo Min-seo, and Jeong Jeong-Hwan. They all have their own respective struggles and growth.
Please make an immediate move to renew for season 2! I will continue to warmly support this drama and recommend it very much to everyone who is thinking of starting to watch the drama
