The Brothers Sun (TBS) is an absolutely beautiful blend of so many different genres of cinema. On the surface, you get John Wick / Warrior level of stylized action and fight choreo. It's layered on top of a Rush Hour buddy cop action comedy. Dig deeper, and just like the cinnamon that gets sprinkled on churros all throughout the series, you get generous dashes of all sorts of other types of entertainment from family drama to gangster Mafia. Something for everyone on the menu.
I'll admit, it took me an episode or two to get properly adjusted to the series. If you're the type of show/movie-goer that wants to nitpick and complain about plot holes (ex. almost all of the law enforcement scenes) and cry "Oh that wouldn't work in the REAL WORLD!" Then you'll probably have too many nits to pick to enjoy TBS. But TBS isn't supposed to be a historical fiction set in the real world. TBS is (in my estimation) a series that shoots to be entertaining. And at that basket, it scores.
The night club scene in the pilot pays some very obvious homages to Kill Bill. Its opening serves as a great tone setter for the series and litmus test for viewers. If you can watch it with Tarantino-tinted glasses and suspend your disbelief, the generous servings of action and comedy are hard not to love. I binged all eight episodes in a day. And I still want seconds- I'm rewatching the series as I write this review and hope for a season 2 one day.
