Alex Michaelides’ The Silent Patient is a gripping psychological thriller centered around Alicia Berenson, a famous painter who inexplicably shoots her husband and then refuses to speak another word. Theo Faber, a psychotherapist obsessed with unlocking Alicia’s silence, takes on the challenge of treating her at a secure psychiatric facility, known as the Grove. As Theo digs deeper, he uncovers layers of secrets that lead to an unexpected and chilling revelation.
Overall, the book is an engrossing book, filled with lots of unexpected twists. Michealides psychological suspense and thriller to keep readers on their toes.
One aspected of the book I especially liked was the alternative perspectives, switching from Theo Faber’s to Alicia Berenson’s. Throughout the book we get excerpts of Alicia’s diary, which makes you think: did she actually do it??
Alex Michaelides really goes into the characters psyches, which really adds depth to both his characters and the plot. It was interesting to see how he went into his characters minds, to see how their pasts reflect their current actions. Not only does he psychologically analyse the main characters but he does so with the side characters as well, but through the eyes of Theo Faber.
This book is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers or anyone who likes a book that will keep them on edge. Its complex characters, layers of mystery and its jaw dropping conclusion make it a perfect read!
