It didn't get a chance to reveal all of its secrets and that's disappointing. So many complaints that the storyline didn't resolve or that the reality of their situation wasn't satisfying...well, why would that be? They only had one season and never had the opportunity to develop into what it was meant to be. "Dark" had multiple seasons and new layers were uncovered in each one. "1899" did not get that opportunity. I felt the potential and I'm disappointed that I won't get to see it unfold. Also, as someone that watches so much subtitled TV, I don't know how anyone can watch any of these shows dubbed. When "Dark" first came out, I could not figure out how to turn off the dubbing and it made it unwatchable. Over two years later, a friend was talking about how amazing the show was and how I needed to watch it. I figured out how to view it in the original language with subtitles and the difference was night and day. I can't sit through anything where the lips don't match the dialogue and the voice doesn't match the actor. I don't even notice the subtitles anymore...it just means I stay more focused on the show because I can't look at my phone and continue to understand what is going on. In "1899", you need to be able to hear the different languages. It's also easier to appreciate the characters when you hear the nuances in their real voices (even though you don't understand what's being said, the vocal emotion and mood translates to the text). I'm a junky for detective/murder mysteries...I ran out of them in the English language. The Scandinavians and Germans know how to make great shows.
