this movie was amazing, but I feel like the point of it was kind of lost. i see a lot of reviews saying it’s “anti-man” but its really not. lets focus on ken, and his story line.
spoilers
in the beginning, ken lives for barbie and for her approval. he is constantly disrespected by barbie and feels like he isn’t enough. he needs barbie
when he goes to the real world, he is introduced to “the patriarchy”. he brings this idea back to barbie land, empowering the kens. he basically realizes that he can just make woman feel like trash, in order to feel better about himself.
in the end though, after the barbie’s take back over, ken is lost again. he feels like he isn’t enough. again, he feels like he needs barbie in order to feel valued. but barbie apologizes to ken, and tells him that shes sorry for disrespecting him, and she tells him that he is enough on his own. he doesn’t need to belittle women in order to feel better about himself. he is ✨kenough✨
this movie manages to be a beautiful story about womanhood, while at the same time it having so much compassion for the men working in the patriarchy.
Barbie, isn’t anti-man, its saying that we are it's saying that we are all equal, and that no one needs to make others feel bad about themselves to feel better about themselves. its saying that we are all ✨kenough✨
