Probably the laziest, completely uninspired, and most cliché forgettable writing I’ve ever seen behind such a high dollar Intellectual property being brought to the big screen. I’ve been a James Gunn fan since the first GOTG, and I even enjoyed the suicide squad reboot.. but his style of making the entire story and every single action scene in the style of comedic relief just doesn't work in the context of a story that doesn’t need comedic relief because there’s no initial intensity to be relieved from. In a modern symbolically meta approach like he did with SS, the comedic relief was brilliant because its failure of a predecessor was so bad that making the entire movie comedic and lighthearted, while also brilliantly gorey, was a form of comedic relief from the entire previous movie and its horrible reception from fans and critics alike. GOTG also worked in a similar way because it was an oddball franchise thrown into the fray of more serious marvel characters while developing the MCU. But in this case, it just plays out like a mid-budget Netflix or D+ series, put into production for the sole purpose of selling tickets. This style often works for the “B” class super heroes, but JG’s Superman is honestly just a disgrace as an addition to the decades of brilliant and diverse visions brought to us by almost every previous director of our American “A list” reboot heroes and villains such as Supe, Batman, joker, and Spider-man.
