All the excessive complaints of this game are most likely from Fortnite and Call of Duty serotonin leeches who’ve never played a genuine RPG let alone a Square Enix game. The pacing is pretty much the same as any other RPG under Square Enix who are known for building unique stories and gaming experiences (Final Fantasy, Nier, Kingdom Hearts, etc.) If you’re a genuine fan of any of these games you’ll enjoy Forespoken as it isn’t far off from their usual formula.
Pros:
- Unique and engaging story loosely based on Alice in Wonderland
- Absolutely stunning visual design for characters, environments, landscapes, architecture, gear, etc.
- Really fun game mechanics including spell combos and traversing (flow mechanic)
Cons:
- Boss/Mini-Boss fights can be quite repetitive as there are no unique mechanics such as quick-time events that promote engagement in the fight.
- Writing/voice acting can sometimes be a bit corny and cliche but this isn’t atypical of other Square Enix games in my opinion.
- Default Audio mixing is the worst I’ve heard in a next gen console game so far but can be edited in sound settings to fit your preferences. (These settings worked wonders for me - Music Volume: 50%, Sound Effect Volume: 90%, Voice Volume: 90%)
- Cuff and Frey interactions on default is considerably annoying but can be edited in accessibility settings to “low” or “minimal” to which he’ll either barely talk or not talk at all until a cutscene.
Overall, Forespoken is your typical whimsical and outlandish Square Enix game and if you enjoy any of their other games you’ll absolutely enjoy Forespoken.
