I had relatively mundane feelings heading into this movie. Don't get me wrong, I loved the original Top Gun. I just had doubts that a sequel, released 36 years after the original and preceded by years of delays, could live up to the nostalgia and intrigue that the original had set.
Woah, was I wrong! I left the theater feeling completely and utterly overwhelmed at just how impressive the movie I just saw was. Not only did the action keep me at the edge of my seat, but the emotional punches the movie continued to throw had an incredible amount of depth to them.
The story was well thought out, the acting was incredible, the cinematography was second to none, and the pace was breakneck yet still perfectly adequate for the film.
I am by no means a frequent cinema goer. I have not seen a movie more than once in the theaters since Interstellar in 2014. Top Gun: Maverick will break that streak. Heck, I may even see it three times.
