A really nice spin on Romeo and Juliet story by adding in many other historical taboos. I definitely enjoyed the first season.
Three main categories:
Entertaining: Yes
Performance/Acting: Although a bit stiff, it is to expected in the beginning for most new series. The chemistry is there just needs time.
Story: Traditionally it’s ok. Plenty of areas to play on because of the many dynamics worse thing is to become predictable.
Hope the writers keep the silliness/drama of teenagers yet add creative clever storylines.
Example:
The ending conflict between Jules and Call (kinda foreseen - understandable), next season how will it develop?
Say Jules, (after Call confessed to kill her), is determined to keep her distance (for maybe half season) although they both remain to have strong feelings for each other.
Perhaps new ‘lover with a twist’ for Jules enters the picture especially as the family deals with Grandmother’s ‘disappearance’. Tension & fun heats up.
Adding more to Ben’s character he sees this ‘breakup’, as nonsense. While Call is angry and he decides to somehow help and questions Call by asking why she doesn’t verify the details w/ her brother Theo to know what happened that evening. If she does it will show Elinor didn’t kill anyone and Jules was torn on her decision and tried calling Call but no response. Etc etc etc
Don’t underestimate clever writing. It’s effective no matter the topic, age or target/group. Just an idea. The writing team will do something amazing yet fun.
