As a huge fan of Tolkien who has read all of his works multiple times over, from The Silmarillion and the Lost Tales to the LOTR trilogy. I have to say I was pretty blown away by the first two episodes. It takes some liberties with the lore but that is to be expected, even Jackson's films did that. The question is does the quality of the production justify those liberties? I'd say in this case they've pulled it off so far. The direction is amazing.
