As a life long fan of this movie, I had seriously high hopes for this movie. Yet I cannot give this movie anything past a 2. I was so excited to watch this and have waited for the live action for some time to come out. There were so many things wrong with this movie. 1st off only a couple of songs even came close to what made the movie what it was in the first place. That is, Part of this World and Poor Unfortunate Souls. Everything else just missed the boat. Under the Sea and Kiss the Girl are by far two of the best songs and scenes in the original movie. Yet they completely changed it and botched the remake version. Arial did not sing with Sebastian in Under the Sea because she didn't agree with him. The fish did not play the instruments and that was a pivotal part of that song. It was what made the music for Sebastian to sing with. Kiss the girl... Oh boy do not get me started on that one. That made me cringe. The singing was wonderful! But where were the fish and all the things that made that a magical romantic moment. I can go on but will save you the rant on that one. It was not what it could be and almost angering. Songs that did not fit in were put in. Eric singing was just horrible. If he could swing his shoulders and twitch any more during one song I may have started to get Tourette Syndrome myself. As a HUGE fan of hip hop and rap... It DID NOT belong in this movie. It took from its ambiance and experience that could have helped aid this movie. Very disappointing. It took from the urgency for Arial to get to Eric. Second how in the world can she say a line then express emotion. It was like watching a badly dubbed movie but with expression and not sound. Eric.... Oh Boy was he like 20 years her senior or at least looked like it. He was not regal in any way, very plain. The statue... How did the CGI get that so wrong. It looked like a statue from the roman times, not Eric. Eric is NOT a prince by birth. WTH was that? You take a child give him to the Queen" and make the butler his father figure. Ridiculous! The ride on the carriage was in a forest type setting not on a sandy beach walkway. The ending breaks my heart... The boat scene and wedding scene was on a patio? Why? Her wedding dress? Some scenes were out of order and just didn't fit or work. It took from the timeline of the story. It all didn't work. It is unfortunate that Disney chose this route because they needed trophy actresses. Their inability to make you believe their emotions outside of Vanessa and Ursula. They nailed it. I could write a book about all the things that made this as bad as it was. I gave it a 2 star only because of the few moments where it gave you hope it might work. Would not recommend nor watch twice. Which is sad. Because the Little Mermaid is an iconic and legendary movie for some people. Do better Disney you are losing your touch due to outside influences.
