UPDATE: So recently they've brought back loot boxes and reintegrated them to the new system where some skins are still locked only behind paywall. As well as brought back the 6v6. I've been testing it out, and I have to say well done on bringing back the old feel. I'm changing my review from a 1 to 4 stars now. There are still some things missing, but just this alone is a huge upgrade, thank you for listening to the player base in some of the more important areas.
Original Review:
They took the original game, deleted it, opened all your loot boxes, deleted an entire role from the game (off-tank), added a new game type that is far worse than 2 cp called "flashpoint", lied about an upcoming story to bait purchases, horrible balancing because every new character they are constantly pumping out needs to be meta for a cash grab, and much more.
People would always complain about something in this game, but it was always a good game in ow1.
You can see in the other reviews here that deleting the off-tank role has had a cascading negative effect on the community, and people are just not having any fun, mainly because of this. If you played ow1, and especially if you were a tank main, you'll know exactly what I mean.
The sad reality is, the majority of the player base is not "review bombing". It's actually a 1 star game, because it's just not fun. The feedback is here for them to clearly read.
There are some reviews upset with the microtransactions, and I get it, they're not wrong, but I think people could forgive this if the game wasn't worse than it was and disrepectfully slapped with an "ow2" label.
Tank wasn't ever a popular role, but it was always highly respected and required extremely good game sense. If you play tank now, it's been reduced to an aiming/just don't die role, and you are viewed by your team as a shameless liability.
Last, but not least they got rid of the fun comradery of matchmaking for no reason at all but to upset people. Your shiny rank emblem showing on your border in competitve is now gone, heck, they got rid of the entire border. So all that hard earned rank you worked for in comp? Hidden from your whole team, nothing to be proud of at all. The vote system at the end of the match? Deleted entirely, you now sit there and stare selfishly at your own stats instead.
By comparison I would give ow1 a 5 star when it came out, and a 4 star at it's state before ow2 release (for reference).
On a closing note, myself and many others, noticed the game started to slowly and steadily get worse around the time Jeff Kaplan left (and I don't blame him for leaving) ultimately leading to this unplayable, unfun, experience.
My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined
