An extremely disappointing movie.
I was duped by the trailers, and completely let down by the lack of fulfilment of the potential that such a movie could have realised.
In these times, a real statement could have been made to show what division, corruption and propaganda could lead to.
But, no.
Instead, they give near-zero background into what caused the conflict, and took us on a road trip with a bunch of hardened “Press” colleagues and a tag-along fan-girl while they stopped off at a few locations along the way for :
a) some petty, unsuccessful character development scenes, or
b) making complete nuisances of themselves to soldiers during random battles.
The final Whitehouse / DC battle scene was practically a rerun of the trailer, which then climaxed with the movie’s low-point, where Miss fan-girl does a cringe move, gets her mentor killed and transitions from innocent, fragile petal to hardened, emotionless press veteran.
Good grief.
But hey, in the end she got “the shot”, while the audience shook our heads as the credits then rolled and we all still had no idea why the American president had just been lynched.
This story could well have been written by a bunch of high-school media students to validate how important their future careers will be.
