All I can say is Starro. Really?? A giant walking starfish with a giant eyeball that shoots smaller starfish out of its armpit, was the big bad guy they had to defeat! Seeing that thing walk around made me feel like I was watching Yo Gabba Gabba or Power Rangers! That was the main thing that bothered me about the movie but not the only thing.
As others have said, the plot was all over the place and there was some key character development missing, and some of the character development/background that WAS put in seemed to serve absolutely no purpose. I didn’t know who to follow or who to root for the entire movie because as soon as you start liking someone or seeing a subplot start to develop, the character suddenly gets taken out. Much of the comedy felt forced or just simply out of place. I don’t mind some well-placed F-bombs in movies, but even the cuss words felt forced.
I loved some of the other DC movies such as Man of Steel, Aquaman and even the newer Justice League, but I just CANNOT see this movie or most of its characters (not you Harley Quinn) tying into that same universe. Can you?? Can you see Henry Cavill’s Superman, or Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, or Jason Momoa’s Aquaman existing in the same universe as Starro, or the walking talking shark? If there is a DC multiverse then that’s another story but then they need to make sure the audiences are aware of that, which in my opinion, MARVEL does a great job of doing.
I’m not giving up on DC movies but after watching this I will not be watching anymore Suicide Squad sequels, or reboots if they continue the franchise.
