This game is among my favorites, just make sure you don’t look things up often. The game is small, but has a huge world. Using not only exploration outwards, but downwards, too. Explore wrecks and examine life pods, searching for salvage to survive while your screen goes black from lack of oxygen, barely reaching the surface in time. Have your dreams of escaping the planet crushed, then restored. Finding codes to doors, frighteningly silent drives in the submarine until suddenly a red dot appears on the sonar, a glimpse of a tail, as big as a house, in the corner of your eye, suddenly repairing holes in the wall while smoke and water fill the air, and red lights flash, markers thousands of fathoms deep to reach the alien facilities, reading pda logs of your fallen shipmates, facing your fears (and certain death) on every jouney, leaving base for days (in game), wondering what lies in the inky blackness below you, eerie shrilling screams pierce the silence, leaving to get ores to craft that item you need, suddenly being attacked by a leviathan, racing for safety in the submarine, waiting for an opening to get to the wreck they guard, escape blocked, fighting your way out. Let me just say the ending was so satisfying I jumped off the couch and danced to the epic Subnautica music, as the credits rolled, each person congratulating me on braving the depths, and this game I truly cannot forget. I can’t wait for the next game. Worth every penny.
Edit: also the scariest moments are when you hit a fish with your submarine. The sound is so loud. I jump every time.
