This was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Although I do understand all the one star reviews. I believe those people aren’t self-aware. No disrespect to them, but they’re probably not in the right frame of mind for a movie like this. I was in a horrible relationship for too many years, I didn’t think there was anything better out there. Thankfully, I finally broke free of that and after a bit of healing and reflection, met a wonderful man who has a very similar background in his own past relationships. Neither of us thought there would be anything better and we both pushed away anyone that was good for us. We’re both very self-aware now and healing from our pasts that made us choose bad partners. This movie was such a reflection of what we went through and how you can absolutely heal and finally let love in.
The first 20 minutes of the movie had me questioning whether I was going to like it. The rental car bit threw me, but you really have to just let yourself believe what they’re going through and enjoy the journey the characters take. The film itself is so beautiful and symbolic. They’re both healing from their pasts, much like so many of us need to do. It’s so dang lovely that they find the perfect person to help them reexamine their past regrets and pains.
If you don’t have true love in your life, or pain in your past and you’re learning to heal, you might not appreciate the nuances of this film. For both me and my guy it was absolutely touching and sweet and so hopeful. The message was that anyone can heal, be happy and find the love of their life, but you have to want it. You have to be strong, take a chance and not just settle on a miserable lonely life. There’s a chance for happiness for all of us!
