As an outsider, learning about Scotland and experiencing its beauty was truly amazing. Both of the gentlemen—despite having limited time—provided enough information to spark our curiosity and encourage us to explore more on our own.
It seemed their storytelling was themed around the Outlander series. I haven’t watched it yet, so some of the references were unfamiliar, but they were presented in a playful and intriguing way—enough to make me want to check out a few episodes to better understand the context.
I’m giving four stars instead of five because I believe that, as cultural representatives, a bit more sensitivity would have been appreciated—especially given their global audience.
In my culture, women have been worshipped. They have been revered and consulted in all major decisions. Even children are often identified through their mother’s name. So it was disheartening to hear about how women were treated historically in other parts of the world. It's even more painful to know that when those cultures colonized others, they imposed those values—often forcefully—on societies that held very different beliefs.
It will likely take generations for the world to truly embrace equality, empathy, and kindness for all beings. But we can start by being thoughtful and respectful in the stories we choose to tell.
