I just finished the book so this extra star is likely just me being generous. I wish I had looked through the reviews before reading but was too afraid the spoilers would spoil the entire thing for me. Waste of time, from memory I'd say it's pretty shitty from around 200-280? whenever Cassie and Rob get together. (There are PAGES of the text where Tana French goes on about how their relationship is so special because they can care about each other and still purely be best friends.)
It did sort of take my breath away they became strangers to each other at the end, but the transition is poorly executed and takes up too much space for a murder mystery that barely develops.
As for the pros:
-Cassie, just pretend she's the main character. She's goated.
-The theme of Jaime having to move away at her age, of knowing she'll have to drop her two closest guy friends while just starting to grow up with them, and the sheer range of hatred and loss felt from it sparked a world of old memories that made something inside me feel, displayed...
-The descriptions can go from being funny and creative, to beautiful.
