The film will be perceived as profound by shallow people. Perhaps, the premise of the movie, is based on the assumption that the average viewer's emotional intelligence & awareness, is well below average. Even Jeff Bridges' acting & the intriguing plot twist, couldn't save the movie, which is 'serviceable' at best.
