I think, even if you control for the wildly low expectations I took into this (and most recent Star Wars attempts), that it's clear this is storytelling of the highest caliber, that you rarely see from Hollywood or any other genre these days, some of the best cinema you'll see for a while and certainly the best Star Wars material that's out there, Original Trilogy included. The first serious attempt to integrate intelligence, complexity, depth, and "noir"ness to the story, the characters, the themes, and in doing so contributes an invaluable piece to a universe that, as far as compelling characterization and storytelling, has always had loads of potential, now realized in this excellent, pensive, at times beautiful show. Regardless of if they botch everything in Season 2 (always my fear lol), we will be forever grateful for Season 1.
