I went in expecting a movie as bad if not WORSE than the last two and the only thing I'm mad about is that it took them two movies to figure it out.
Yes, the movie has its somewhat cheesy moments, but it's based on a franchise made in the 70s. It brought back those kinds of moments while adding the late-2010s flare and style of storytelling. Additionally, it was written with the sincerity and seriousness the previous two films sorely lacked. It had a purpose and that it fulfilled.
Exposition, being a large topic of public and critic discussion, was spread throughout (there had to be quite a bit due to TLJ), but was done so well to the point of surprising my expectations.
Give this movie a chance. Most of the hate for this movie comes from the questionable way it was produced and the backlash of TLJ that still lingers. I may never watch TFA or TLJ again (they were both terrible), but I will certainly give praise to and watch this movie many times again in the future.
Congratulations JJ Abrams for getting this right!
