This book was terribly disappointing. I expected more after hearing the author speak at a festival. However, upon picking up the book, I could feel waves of dissatisfaction coursing off the cover.
I believe the story was a dry, wet mess of hogwash. Frenchie was the stereotypical male who just wanted to be manly and the other side characters were present only to get him there. Like what was the significance of Riri? Did she only exist so Frenchie could man up and avenge her death???? Was Rose only there because she could give Frenchie what all men want??? If you want to make a good book, think deeper into the problem. Yes, climate change was present and acknowledged but did that really affect the events in the story besides its dystopic value? Is it really possible to burn down a building by singing? Was Minerva's Hz really that high, how was physics accounted into the plot line?
I think the only redeeming part of the story was when Recruiter #2 exploded on the toilet. I felt the most moved by this.
Overall, I think schools should read the books they assign their kids because this book mentions many topics on SA and CP that aren't appropriate for the modern society.
