Actually, the critics aren't completely wrong. When we think of Pompeii, the place, all I can think of is The eruption. When I saw this movie, I thought it would be more of a move about the eruption itself. Well, i am not saying the eruption wasn't there at all. But it could be completely about the eruption, suggesting the name. Maybe the movie could've been made from Pliny the Younger's perspective. All I am saying is, the movie was not crisp. It included unnecessary detail. But also, Titanic wasn't a movie about the sinking of the ship. But somehow, it had that magnetic pull to the audience!
