An edge of your seat adventure that was amazing in the visual sense, but lacked a sound plot. While I will not complain about Jack, as he is pretty much the same as At World's End, Penelope Cruz was amazing as Angelica, and Ian McShane was very menacing in his portrayal of Blackbeard... for the first five minutes of his role, after which he becomes the villan who just doesn't make sense. The real Blackbeard died in 1718, making his return illogical. The entire mermaids subplot was fine, but Phillip and Syrena sort of stuck out in a wrong place wrong time sort of sense. The entire voodoo doll thing felt VERY out of place, as did the fact that the Spanish were always one step ahead of everyone else, and came to the fountain just to destroy it. The part I hated the most was that Barbossa didn't want to get the Pearl back, he just wanted to kill Blackbeard, making him the Captain Ahab of POTC. All in all, it doesn't destroy the series, but can't be compared to the original three. It's okay to skip, but you can have some fun watching it as long as you can sit through the first hour. It starts bad, but improves after the mermaid scenes. A solid 4 out of 5.
