To begin I have to say this movie is an experience.
We see into a conversation that's very difficult such as abortion and being a parent really. Watching this movie made my stomach crawl most of the time. I found myself being disgusted at some of the conversation but also being touched and understanding of the different characters and opinions.
Coming into this movie I had no Idea what is was going to be about so I was really shocked throughout this whole movie about how real the conversations and situations felt like. Now if you haven't watched this movie THIS IS SPOILER!!!!
We get to watch Jess be a surrogate for her bestfriend and his husband, but once they get the results that the child has an extra chromosome diagnosing her/him (The baby) as a child with Down Syndrome. As soon as this information was revealed to the trio it is very clear that the couple has not thought through pregnancy and had not asked themselves these questions. The movie takes you through this world wind of whether Jess will keep the baby or not because her best friend no longer wants him or her.
As much as I don't agree with the decisions and the a lot of the characters views on the situation, I still appreciate this movie. It starts a very important conversation and makes you experience the intensity of the situation. The movie felt beautifully shoot and directed. I honestly felt like I was there in the room experiencing every tear shed with the characters.
That being said I feel like I should say that I am a female that is against abortion and it is MY moral belief it's wrong but this movie makes it in a way that you can disagree with the character and some of the conversations that can be triggering or disrespectful to some and still have compassion for the situation and everyone involved. Sure, I was furious of some aspects of the movie but I feel like the movie was still beautiful to me it really created a conversation that people should probably start having especially if you are wanting to become a parent.
As a Hispanic, Person of color however you want to describe it. I really connected to Jess and even her parents at some points when they talked about being a single parent and the stereotype that comes with that within it self as a person of color. Again, although I don't agree with the decisions made by the characters that doesn't mean this movie wasn't beautifully done in my opinion.
Truly believe everyone should watch this movie and even study the psychology of it all. There so much you can pick apart and analyze. Overall, at the end you are able to take a deep breathe and be thankful to be alive and to be given a chance to have a voice whether your neurodivergent or not.
