This short story explores the dark side of human nature. It askes its readers to ask uncomfortable questions about what humans are capable of when it comes to how we treat each other. The statement is made by Tessie, "This isn't fair!" Is The Lottery fair? I think that it is fair. However, is The Lottery Just? Is The Lottery a true look into the dark underbelly of humanity? I love teaching this story to my students because of all the moral questions it raises.
